Intoe Correction Surgery
- Osteotomy: Making an incision on a part of bone
- Cyclotomy: A procedure that corrects and fixes the projected toe
The patient can start walking a day after the surgery, wearing subsidiary shoes and with the help of crutches. Hospitalization period approximately 8~10 days.
Post-operation Caution
- Bring a bag of ice and hang it on the corner of the bed so that it doesn’t weigh on the foot.
Make the ice bag wrap around the big toe.
- Use either crutches or a pair of walker, whichever is more comfortable to use.
- First, step on the heel then on the outside of the foot.
- Wearing a pair of normal shoes could destroy the operated part so the patient must wear postop-shoes.
- Walking with every toe, even the big toe should happen 6 weeks after the operation.
- The doctor will teach the patient how to exercise with the big toe 3 weeks after the operation.
- No more dressing 8 weeks after the operation.
The patient must practice hard with his/her toes so that s/he could bend and stretch the toe completely.
- In a lot of cases, it is impossible to wear shoes with narrow ball or high heels.
- In case the big toe bends to the opposite side of direction before the operation, use a bandage for the correction.
Through a big toe exercise, the patient can control the angle desired.
